Save checkpoints and restore earlier content

Use version history to keep milestones and recover from unwanted changes.

Before you start, link to this section

  • Open the course whose history you want to inspect.
  • History stores content checkpoints inside the project; keep separate file backups too.

Step by step, link to this section

  1. Choose Options → Version history.
  2. Choose Save named checkpoint, enter a useful label such as Before assessment rewrite, and save it.
  3. Inspect the list of named and automatic checkpoints.
  4. To return to one, choose Restore and read the confirmation. The current content is checkpointed first.
  5. After restoration, review the course overview, affected chapters, and media.
  6. Delete a checkpoint only when you are sure it is no longer needed.

What to expect, link to this section

Restoring changes the current project’s content and returns you to its overview. Restoration is an undoable edit. Named checkpoints are retained until you delete them; automatic checkpoints use a rolling history.

Tips & troubleshooting, link to this section

  • Automatic checkpoints are created periodically while editing, not after every keystroke.
  • Deleting a checkpoint cannot be undone through the history dialog.
  • A content checkpoint is not a separate backup of your whole computer or a guarantee that a deleted external file can be recovered.
